Individual Traits in an Undergraduate Sample

This study aimed to identify whether risk factors for the potential to perpetrate physical maltreatment differ by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, immigration status, and cultural background.

Intimate Relationships in Emerging Adulthood

This study examined how intimate relationships during emerging adulthood change over one and a half to two years. Emerging adults, individuals ages 18-25 years, are typically entering their first intimate partnerships during this time and are developing interpersonal skills important for successful partnerships. This was one of the first studies to longitudinally examine change in positive and destructive interpersonal interactions in intimate partnerships of emerging adults.

Youth in Transition

Youth In Transition is an individual psychotherapy program offered through the Queens College Psychological Center (QCPC) in English and/or Spanish.  Clinicians provide culturally sensitive psychological services, including trauma-focused individual psychotherapy to immigrant youth (ages 12 to 25) and their families. These services are targeted to adolescents and young adults who have immigrated to the U.S. and are experiencing stress, isolation, and difficulty adjusting.  This treatment is appropriate for academic, occupational, or interpersonal difficulties, as well as for a range of symptoms related to PTSD, depression, and anxiety.  The program also supports the psychological needs of young Latinos facing the stress and uncertainty associated with immigration and legal proceedings. In this program, youth are guided toward empowerment, while identifying sources of support here in the United States.

Consistent with QCPC's mission to bring research-based treatment programs to benefit the community directly, YIT is offered as part of a research study.  This study seeks to improve the lives of immigrant youth and their families.  Psychological services are provided by advanced doctoral students in our Clinical Psychology Phd. Program at Queens College, City University of New York.  These students will be closely supervised by experienced and licensed psychologists clinical faculty.
